SPF is a must!
Sun screen is the most important part of your makeup routine. Nothing ages you faster or disrupts your skin’s barrier than our beautiful sun. The days of baby oil and iodine are long gone, we now embrace protecting the skin we’re in. Luckily, we have so many options so we have no excuse to leave the house without protection.
I love the SkinCeuticals Daily Brightening UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 30. ($60) It formulated to improve your skin while protecting it. This Dual-action daily hydrating sunscreen protects against UV-induced pigmentation, evens skin tone, and instantly brightens skin. A current cult favorite is the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40. ($22) It’s the invisible sunscreen that’s perfect for under makeup. This oil-free formula gives a natural finish and should be in your bathroom year around.
Stick to Simple
If you've never used a cream eyeshadow stick, you are truly missing out!! These products are really making a comeback in 2023. Almost every brand is hopping on this bandwagon, so the options are endless. You simple swipe the cream across your lid and blend with your finger or a blending brush and you're done! You can choose between shimmer or matte, but I do suggest a waterproof formula if you're going to be bathing in the sun.
My mom’s personal favorite is from Thrive Cosmetics. ($26) This stick glides so
effortlessly along the lids of all ages and delivers a long-lasting impression. The shimmer shades give your lid that gorgeous pop to make your eyes sparkle. I’m currently having a love affair with the ELF Cosmetics No Budge Shadow sticks ($5). The color options have but reigniting my love for color. I’m not sure what I love more: the blendable formula, the color options, or the amazing price. We may be adding eyeshadow sticks to our makeup collection for the beach, but cream shadow sticks make a great base for a smoky eye for date night.
Waterproof Lashes
As a makeup artist I only condone waterproof mascara on very few occasions. Weddings,
funerals, and a day on the water. Over a decade in the beauty industry I exclusively purchase drugstore mascaras. If you have oily skin or lids a great trick is to add translucent powder to the tips of your bottom lashes after mascara. The smallest bit of powder really goes a long way. You can also take a blending brush and add translucent powder to your lids, yes ever over your eyeshadow. This will absorb the oil and fight transferring.
My all-time favorite mascara is the L’Oréal Voluminous Original Mascara. ($10.99) I always knew I loved it but what happy to know this is the mascara Makeup by Makeup, Kim Kardashian's makeup artist has used on her for years.
